What will your volunteers be like in 5 years time?

This month we have published the second in our new series of pocket guides analysing the external environment. This guide looks at six of the most important drivers affecting who your volunteers will be in five years’ time, how they will be managed and what their motivations will be. This guide can help your organisation explore how volunteers and the nature of volunteering is changing, enabling your organisation to better retain, recruit and manage volunteers in the years to come. The guide discusses the following drivers:

  1. More ‘professional’ volunteering
  2. The ageing population
  3. Time poor society
  4. Weaker ties to geographical communities
  5. ‘Consumer culture’
  6. Changing ideas about volunteering

This resource is the second in a series of introductory pocket guides commissioned by the Performance Hub; each one focuses on a different topic. The guides are aimed at small to medium sized VCOs, but we hope that everyone will find these guides provide a useful analysis of the external environment.
